Should we go with a Mid of High Efficiency Furnace?
November 12, 2002

Question from Nancy and Dennis in Delta, B.C. -----

Dear Shell,

We are having our basement completely renovated - putting in a gas fireplace, and replacing our 35 year plus furnace.

We are also moving it about 3-4 ft. We live in North Delta - our home is 1250 sq. ft. upstairs, 1050 sq. ft. downstairs. Our contractor has informed us the best way to go is to put in a standard replacement furnace - 60,000 BTU and 80% efficiency for around $2,500.00.

I posed the question to him that everyone recommends putting in 90 plus efficiency. He said we don't need that and if we decide to go that way we will have to change our venting system and duct works at a much greater cost. The money factor is not really the issue. The question is what is the best & most economical way to go.

Thank you,

Nancy and Dennis
